In this article, we will guide you through the process of configuring My Metrics in the MSIGHTS Reporting platform.

What is My Metrics?

My Metrics is a feature in MSIGHTS Reporting that lets users create custom metrics based on existing ones within an Exchange Data Set. By incorporating custom formulas, users can efficiently create and integrate new metrics into reporting processes, eliminating the need for development or operational support. These metrics are accessible to all users within the Exchange Data Set, making reporting more flexible and efficient.

My Metrics Update:

In Q4, we introduced updates to My Metrics, adding new features and improving the user experience.

Key Updates:

  1. New Advanced Category: Create custom metrics, including counts, weighted averages, percentages of totals, or other advanced formulas.

  2. New Date Category: Build metrics to calculate date spans.

  3. Expanded Metric Libraries: Enhanced Standard and Media Metric libraries with additional templates.

Note:

  • All new metrics must be created in the updated My Metrics.

    1. This feature is not available to all users by default. Only users with Reporting Admin roles will have access to it.

    2. To access this feature, please contact MSIGHTS support.

  • For the time being, My Metrics (Legacy), is available only to edit previously created metrics as we prepare the transition. We recommend exploring and using the new version of My Metrics for the latest tools and capabilities.

Getting Familiar with My Metrics

To create a My Metric, you will need to configure four parameters:

  1. Metric Definition: Choose a template from the Metric Library:

    • Advanced:

      • Custom Builder

      • Count Attributes

      • Weighted Formula

      • Percentage of Total

    • Date: Metrics based on date spans.

    • Standard: Mathematical expressions (e.g., x=y, x=y*z, x=y+z).

    • Media: Predefined marketing metrics (e.g., Bounce Rate, CTR, CPC).

  2. Exchange Data Set: Specify the dataset where the metric will apply.

  3. Metric Configuration: Define the logic or formula for the metric.

  4. Aggregate Function: Choose how the metric will be aggregated (e.g., sum, average, count).

How to Configure My Metrics in MSIGHTS Reporting

Step 1: Access My Metrics Configuration

  • Open the Left Panel and navigate to the Data Workbench section.

  • Click on My Metrics to open the configuration pop-up (to view or edit existing metrics, select "My Metrics (Legacy)").

Step 2: Initiate the Creation Process

  • To initiate the creation of a new metric, select the "New Metric" button located in the upper-right corner of the pop-up window.

Step 3: Select the Metric Library and Name the Custom Metric

  • Choose a template from Advanced options, Date, Standard, or Media.

  • Enter a Name for your metric (you can now split the name label into two rows for better organization by checking the relevant checkbox. In the image below, the metric on the left appears in a single row while the second is in two rows.)

  • Format: Select the display format, such as a percentage, with or without decimal points.

Step 4: Select the Exchange Data Set

  • Pick the Exchange Data Set where your custom metric will apply.

Step 5: Configure Metric Mapping

  • Refer to the relevant categories for each step:

Advanced Options

  • Custom Builder: Customize your formula to meet specific requirements.

  • Count Attributes: Select metrics to display as a distinct count.

  • Weighted Formula: Choose metrics and specify an attribute to apply weighting.

  • Percentage of Total: Select a metric to display as a percentage of the total in the widget.

Custom Builder

Example: Creating a custom formula using the custom builder – (Clicks Delivered / Media Spend) * 10.

Date Configuration

  1. Choose a start date and an end date to calculate the date span.

  2. Select either a fixed date or "today's date" for both fields.

  3. Display Options: Choose to display the results by days, weeks, or months.

  4. Include End Date: Enable this option to include the end date in the calculation.

    • Note: If the start and end dates are the same, the result will be 1.

  5. Allow Negative Differences: Enable this option to allow date span calculations to include negative values. By default, the calculation uses the absolute difference between dates

    • Example:

      • Start date: Dec 15, End date: Dec 1.

      • Default result: 14 (absolute difference).

      • If this option is enabled, the result will be -14.

Standard & Media

  • Map the formula values to existing metrics to define relationships within your configuration.

Example: When calculating CTR (Click-Through Rate):

    • Map the clicks metric to represent the numerator.

    • Map the impressions metric to represent the denominator.

Step 6: Choose the Aggregate Function

  • Select an aggregation function (e.g., sum, average) for the custom metric.

Note: For "Custom Builder", you can choose the "Original Formula" option - which aggregates data based on your Metric Mapping configuration, or select one of the following functions: average, count, max, min, or sum.

Step 7: Save the Configuration

  • Click Save to finalize. Your custom metric will now be available within the selected Exchange Data Set.

How to select the My Metrics and view the result

Steps to View the Result:

  1. Create a Widget: Begin by creating a widget in reporting.

  2. Select the Dataset: Choose the dataset containing your custom metric.

  3. Select the Custom Metric: Add your metric to the widget.

  4. Review Results: Analyze the widget to see your custom metric in action

Additional Tips When Creating My Metrics

My Metrics Rules and Exceptions

  1. Editing and Removal: Only the creator of a metric can edit or delete it to maintain consistency.

  2. Access: This feature is available to select users, such as Client Engagement members and certain Client Admins, to preserve data integrity.

  3. Widget Editing: Widgets using My Metrics can be edited by users with Board Admin rights, allowing adjustments while retaining metric functionality.
